Math Club Announcement

The upcoming 2011-2012 academic year is looking to be a very prosperous one for the Math Club and we, the Executive Board, would like to invite you to participate in the activities and to be a part of the Math Club! We are going to also be selling Math Club apparel for fundraising, such as the attached flyer. Please check out the Math Club website for more information at:

Upcoming activities include:
Putnam Training - Weekly student training on Mondays and student/teacher training on Wednesdays from 3:30-4:30.
Weekly Student Colloquiums - An alternating one-week mathematics, following week physics and mathematics one hour seminar will be ran alongside the Society for Physics Students club (SPS) where students will be presenting topics they find informative and interesting.
Tea Time - The math club will be serving tea regularly on Fridays from 11:00 am to open a social gathering for students and faculty.
Cram Jam - Certain weekends out of the semester, the Math Club will be hosting a Cram Jam for students to get together to study math and socialize.
Fundraising - The Math Club will be selling club t-shirts for $15 each to help fundraiser for larger club events.
Movie Night - September 7, we will be playing the movie "Proof" and will have more movie nights to come.
General Meetings - General Meetings will be held on tuesdays from 3:30 to 4:30 in GC 305, the first being August 30th, 2011.

Some slightly older news from the Club.....

The 2011-2012 math club executive board has been chosen and has met for its first meeting on May 19th. The members of the board are:

Eric Wawerczyk, President
Johanna Casado, Vice Prsident
Christine Lucille Kuryla, treasurer
Nathalie Molina, Secretary
Andres Cubas, Events Coordinator
Henry Zorrilla: CSO Representative

Among the first things the board will do is a resubmitting of the Constitution of the Club with some editing. The editing will include adding the following duties of the Club:

  • The Math Club Duties
    - Increase Public Awareness of the Math Club and mathematics
    - Expose modern mathematics at a public level.
    - Promote the improvement of mathematics education.
    - Promote a healthy environment amongst members of the Math Club as well as fellow academic clubs at FIU

We wish the Club members a fruitful academic year, and to the board - success in making the Club a forum where students can share interesting ideas, improve academically, and enjoy being at FIU!
